Vision:
The National Space Grant College and Fellowship program is a network of colleges
and universities working to expand opportunities for Americans to understand and
participate in NASA’s aeronautics and space programs by supporting and
enhancing science and engineering education, research, and outreach programs.
Education:
Knowing that today's students are tomorrow's scientists, the Colorado Space
Grant at Colorado State University provides opportunities for students from all
levels. Students gain the experience and confidence they need to prepare for
careers in space science and technology through papers, design and development
projects, design reviews, and presentations. Many programs are based on the
successful pairing of education and research. Emphasis is on innovative programs
that assure the development and transfer of practical applications in aerospace
education.
Research:
Colorado Space Grant has demonstrated that undergraduate student education and
research opportunities go hand-in-hand. Student participation is encouraged in
all research projects. The goal is to foster an intellectual climate where
education, technology transfer, and research are inseparable. Recent projects at
CSU include: using global positioning systems and satellite information to
efficiently distribute fertilizer on a corn field; study of plant root
orientation in a microgravity environment; simulating wind forces on launch
vehicles to build effective exhaust deflection devices; and a look at the
effects of microgravity on exercise posture during a straight leg deadlift.
Outreach:
At Colorado State University we provide K-12 teachers and students access to the
excitement, knowledge, and technology available from America's earth, air and
space programs. Training and development workshops enhance teachers' knowledge
and understanding of space science and technology. Students also benefit from
K-12 classroom visits and mentoring programs designed to develop a diverse
workforce of future scientists, engineers, technology professionals and
educators.
